The WASM Wombats

The WASM Wombats are a 100% student-organised and run mining team who compete annually at the International Intercollegiate Mining Competition. The Wombats are based in the heartland of the Australian mining industry, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and are widely regarded as the premiere International Collegiate mining team, boasting many wins over all divisions since joining the competition in 1999. The Wombats begin training for the competition at the beginning of Semester 2 each year and train two to three times a week. This continues until around a month before the competition, when training intensifies to six times a week in preparation for the competition.

The Wombats successful culture has been established through its organisational ethos of developing the leadership and team working skills of its members. The Wombats maintain strong ties with the local industry and community through participation in local events such as Coolgardie Day, the St Barbara Day Parade, and Diggers and Dealers. We also maintain close relationships within the Kalgoorlie community, to promote strong ties with local industry.
